Cool Down After Running
First of all, we want to thank everyone for joining the race. It was very successful! I hope everyone had fun. I know that a lot of novice runners came to join the run. Because of this, I decided to research some cool down tips after running.
1. Right after running, you should not stop immediately. You have to cool down with a 5-8 minute light walk. Lowering your heart rate slowly will help your body cope with the strenuous physical activity. In some cases, it helps prevent cramps, too.
2. Breathe deeply and smoothly. Your muscles would’ve gotten fatigued. It’s up to you and your lungs to make sure you supply them with enough oxygen.
3. Stretch! Not only will it feel awesome, it will help relax the muscles you strained the most. This will also help prevent cramps, I think.
4. Rehydrate as much as you can. When you’re running, you sweat and you will lose a lot of liquid. This is why during and after the race, you have to keep replenishing lost water. It’ll help you cool your muscles down naturally, too.
5. Stay warm. No, this isn’t because of that old wives’ tale of being pasmado. Rapid cooling down will cause your muscles to be quite sore because they compress too quickly.
Those are five easy tips for you guys to remember when you go on another run! You know, for when Run for Home 2011 comes around if it does! Here’s to hoping!
