Technophiles Rejoice! Android 2.0!

The world of open source is once again brimming with excitement because of Android 2.0. Recently, I talked about Android and the smart phones, like HTC Magic, that utilize the operating system. It just got an upgrade.

Android 2.0 shipped with the Motorola Droid, which was released not so long ago. An estimated 250,000 Droids were already sold in the United States, alone. What’s the big deal, right? Check it out.

You can create multiple accounts for email and contact synchronization, including Exchange accounts. You can also pick a contact, and choose whether to send that person a text message, an email, an MMS or give him a call.

The inbox is combined for multiple accounts if you want it to be, for easy browsing. There is also a really cool search functionality for SMS and MMS. And I don’t know how you feel about this, but you can auto-delete messages once they reach the limit.

The virtual keyboard is awesome, too. The layout and the input system were improved to avoid errors. For those who like spelling out their words correctly, there’s a dictionary, too.

Browser user interface on the browser was improved with a URL bar, which makes everyone’s lives much easier. There is a bookmarking system with page thumbnails and double-tap zoom function. For you tech freaks out there, you’ll be happy to know it supports HTML 5. Since this was a Google innovation, you can expect there to be YouTube functionality.

For phone camera freaks out there, you’ve got built-in flash support, digital zoom, scene mode, white balance, color effects and macro focus.

There are a ton of other functions but we’ll leave that for you guys to find out on your own. I’m sure you technophiles are just geeking over the new Android 2.0. Expect more phones to carry this amazing operating system. I’m sure it’ll be in stores here sooner rather than later.
