All in a Day’s Work! Bangon Pinoy!

Last November 7, 2009, Globe employees and a few volunteers went to Concepcion, Tarlac for the replanting efforts under the Bangon Pinoy initiative. Let me tell you, it was a heart warming experience!

We gathered at Globe Towers at around 4:30AM. There was a ton of preparation but we were able to head out and make really good time. We arrived at our destination by 9AM. We distributed Bangon Pinoy hats, gloves for working and a hat to protect people from the sun.

When we got there, the reception we received was awesome! There were traditional costumes and there were smiles all around! After the opening ceremonial planting and opening program, we divided the workload into 5- painting, bamboo fencing, landscaping, kubo installing and taking care of the kids. I actually tried a little bit of painting and landscaping.

Whew! The sun was bearing down on us and exhaustion was slowly creeping up on even the most hardcore of us. It was hard work, but honestly it was also extremely rewarding! After most of the heavy lifting (and heavy eating) was done, Globe employees and the guest volunteers held a few games for the kids.

At 3PM, we made our way back to Manila. I couldn’t help but think of all the good we did in just one afternoon. Imagine the amount of good that the money we’ll be able to raise with the #BangonPinoy twitter initiative can do for people in similar communities.

Yes, your tweets will still count! We’ve extended this initiative to November 15, 2009! Go tweet #BangonPinoy! Put in a little effort and you make a HUGE impact!
