Down, But Not Out

When Ondoy and Pepeng came around, our country sustained massive damages. Many people lost their homes, their possessions and their loved ones. It was a tragedy for everyone in the country; no one was really spared.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get away unscathed, either. We couldn’t be at full power when the people really needed us. Globe telecoms infrastructure took major damage, too.

We regret not being able to do more. It just wasn’t humanly possible; our gear got submerged c completely. Our station in Angono was totalled. We had a single generator running for days on end, and refuelling was only possible with a small boat. Our site along the Marikina riverbank was also in bad shape. Our entire cabin was submerged.

Of course, we’re not going to take this lying down. Like the rest of the country, we will rise up and get past these difficult times. We’ve been putting a lot of effort, around the clock, just to get back our service up to snuff.

As of October 14, we’ve restored 97% of the wireless networks and 88% of the broadband networks damaged by Ondoy. We’ve also put 48% of the wireless networks and 90% of broadband networks damaged by Pepeng back up and online.

While we rebuild our network to 100% capacity, we will also help our fellow Filipino to rebuild their lives through our Bangon Pinoy initiative. Globe employees and some volunteers will physically help those in affected areas, such as replanting efforts.

Using the #bangonpinoy hashtag, tweet pictures, videos, quotes, motivational words, and links to inspirational sites. For every tweet made, Globe and the Philippine Blog Awards will guarantee P1.00 to be spent for Ondoy and Pepeng victims.

The Bangon Pinoy truck will make its way to affected areas to bring relief goods, financial assistance and network rehab.

Also as a part of Bangon Pinoy, Globe engineers have been feverishly working on bringing back full service to Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Baguio and Cagayan. There were mobile cellsites deployed in several areas, while existing sites are being used to carry the burden of the downed sites.

100 cabinets or more are being restored and repaired. We hope to get them up by November 15. For Ondoy-related damage, we’re investing an estimated P44 million to repair our mobile network and upwards of P104 million for the broadband network. The estimates for repairs for Pepeng-related damage is still being assessed.

To show good will to our subscribers, as a part of the Bangon Pinoy initiative, we will provide this:

We’re also providing libreng tawag stations, libreng internet stations and libreng charging stations through local church groups and government units.

With your help, we’ll rebuild. Brick by brick, stone by stone, fiber optic cable by fiber optic cable, we will take back what the typhoons have taken from us.
